Real homelab. Beginner words.
Homelab Pilot started with a simple frustration: guides for “home servers” are either written for people who already speak fluent Docker, or they are SEO listicles generated to push you toward the most expensive box on Amazon.
So this site takes the middle road. Every guide here comes from an actual, working home lab — old PCs, a mini server, media and download services, backups, the lot — maintained by hand and tested before it's published. If a guide says something works, it's because it ran on real hardware, not in a chatbot's imagination.
What you'll find here
- Start-from-zero guides — what a homelab is and how to build your first one without burning your house down.
- Old-PC projects — turning hardware you already own into something useful.
- Honest hardware picks — what to buy (and what to skip) when your old PC isn't enough anymore.
- Beginner-friendly services — media servers, downloads, dashboards, backups and the rest.
How this site makes money
Some guides contain affiliate links — if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That's what keeps the lights on, and it's why there are no ads. The full details are on ourAffiliate Disclosure page.
What we don't do
No trackers, no ads, no newsletters (yet), no selling your data — and no pretending a machine generated our experience. See thePrivacy Policy for the fine print (it's short, we promise).
